Re: Evidence-based obstetrics/MedicineFrom: mborn (morn@massmed.org)Sun Mar 31 06:21:20 1996
On Evidence-based obstetrics/Medicine, At my last course on guidelines pratice parameters etc the persentage of Medicince that is evidenced bases is only 10%. So despite everything we do a lot is made up by the Art we practice, Otherwise we would not have the diverity of opinions that appears on the list. Now I do not say that diversity is wrong, and I have used some of whats has been presented in the past to modify my practice habits. But we all know what one article says there can be one that says the opposite, for example the NEJM article on BReast Cancer vs the the article about 4 weeks later in JAMA that where 180 degrees apposed.. As we develop practice guidelines and they are only guidelines not gospel, you must beable to use your traing and knowledge to evalueate accept or reject, and present reasons for same, Because we are biological systems on the standard curves apply and there are variations at bothe end s of the curve, is why different options work. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
