Evidence-based obstetrics

Thanks for the very interesting discussions on the list recently. Although I tend to favour epidurals myself for severe PIH I tend to favour the Cape Town approach to the argument. The whole point is that this is not evidence-based obstetrics and serves to highlight the difficulties that would be faced by anyone attempting a RCT to resolve the question. On the one hand the UCT people have acquired great experience in providing 'safe' GA's while others have the opposite experince. Unless staff at the same institution had equal experience in both areas then it would be difficult ( and perhaps unethical) to conduct such a study. Having said that difficult trials involving special technical expertise in one or both armshave been undertaken. Is anyone planning trials in this field?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
