When I receive a denial from a medical review organization re: a proposed surgery that my patient and I believe to be indicated, I follow a colleague's suggestion-- I relay the decision of the review organization to the patient, and suggest that perhaps she herself should call that "800 number', and request an appointment with the reviewer. The patient tells the party that if they are going to make a medical decision that profoundly affects her health and her care then she insists on being evaluated and examined. If they refuse, the patient explains that she is going to contact her attorney, especially if this denial adversely affects her health!! On two occasions that I am aware of, the "denied" decision was reversed.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
