Your comments about the Ins. Co's saying we won't pay for it but if you think it's needed, that's up to you and the patient really hits the nail on the head. This may be changing though, I see that one insurance company is being sued by the patient for the results of her baby's Kernicterus, that wasn't diagnosed because of an early discharge. The courts are allowing it to happen on the basis of the contracts between the Ins. Co. and the MD's. This apparently went to the point that the Ins. Co. was actually practicing medicine.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
