Marc, Our policy (and from the nearby area too!) is that a support person or persons can be present, but it must be acceptable to both the operating physician and the MDA. A "support" person does need to be there for the support person - a member of the birthing services staff per policy; we usually use our aide (She about 4' 10" - not much support).

Another policy says that someone other than the patient's sig other must be present for child observing a birth (vag or CB) - in case the birth was too overwhelming for them. I would want to know that the child was prepared for what would be happening and that this was the child's desire as well as the mother's/
