I second this. Also, I have in the past circulated during quite a few c-sections and don't see how this is such a complicated task to warrant going against the family's wishes (I only saw one person pass out - my best friend's husband). It is not the same as watching surgery, the support person(s) are behind a drape and only see the patient's head and the baby. The 'trial run' idea is good, also they might want to consider an extra person (to wait outside) to stay with the 13 year old in case she needs to leave the OR for any reason.

At my present worksite, we need only get permission from anesthesia (which is really only a courtesy - they always give it) for a second support person during c-sections, because no one else minds. There have never been any problems as far as I know.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
