>Marc J. Burkhart, M.D. I once had a 5 year-old in the OR for a section. She had seen her sister's birth at age 4, and did great (at another hospital; we spoke with the nursing staff there). There is a drape up and the kid was to short to see over it, anyway. The mother, father, and 5-year old did a couple of dry runs at my request, and we cleared it way in advance with the OR team, including the anesthesiologist. The 5year old did great, and in fact did better than the student nurse! I would not do something you are not comfortable with, but if you decide here or in the future to include the kids, I would strongly suggest a "dry run", since I know of a few kids who "failed" the dry run. Their parents wisely decided not to include them in the OR. If anyone out there knows of data that shows children are traumatized by the birth experience, either vaginal or operative, I would be interested in seeing it. Thanks, Ashley Hill D. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
