Degenerating fibroidFrom: Kenneth J. Moise (kmoise@bcm.tmc.edu)Thu Dec 21 17:12:14 1995
Doug Krell asked if there was any recourse for a degenerating fibroid other than tincture of time. We have extensive experience with this situation in pregnancy. Treatment with PG synthetase inhibitors (indomethacin is what we usually use - 25 mg orally every 6 hours) will result in marked improvement several hours after the first dose. We usually continue the therapy for 72 hours then stop. If the pain resumes then we treat for 7 days. Of course one must always be concerned re: torsion. I have seen the pain of torsion also respond to indomethacin. Hope this helps. Ken Moise MFM, Baylor College of Medicine

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
