DyspareuniaFrom: The Pirate Queen/Quark's Latinum Lady (jwhildin@ix.netcom.com)Wed Dec 20 23:04:03 1995
Hi! I'm not a gynecologist or obstretrician, but I joined this list hoping to learn more about women's bodies and maybe come up with an answer to a problem I have. I have extreme pain with intercourse. I have tried lubrications (although I've been recommended Astroglide, but haven't had a chance to try it yet), and none of them worked. I have problems with yeast infections, but even when they're cleared up, I still have the pain. I'm told by my gyno that I'm tightening up, and then I will relax the muscle, but the pain still persists. A finger is enough to do it. I have begun requesting vaginal suppositories when my gyno prescribes yeast medication, because I can use my finger to insert it, far less painfully than an applicator (and I've tried putting the cream or lube on it to ease it in, but it doesn't help a whole lot). I have been asked if I was sexually abused, but I have no memory of such a thing. I have panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Can this have anything to do with it? I am in therapy for these things. Going to the gyno is not fun for me, because the speculum is excruciating to me. Can someone offer some suggestions? And please don't get too technical--as I said, I'm not a gyno or ob! :) I do understand words like dyspareunia and vaginismus, to save you typing, if you prefer to use those words.
