intrathecal narcotic analgesiaFrom: jnaliboff@mem.po.comSun Dec 17 13:34:32 1995
I have been using sufentanyl at a dose of 10micrograms for intrathecal labor analgesia. At this dose and with this drug I have had a >50% incidence of fetal bradycardia to rates of 60-70 beginning 10 minutes after the dose and lasting for 10 minutes. All babies have had good apgars. The first few times was a little scary. The anesthesia literature suggests an incidence closer to 15% of bradycardia presumably due to fetal vagal stimulation. Does anyone else have experience with this or other intrathecal agents and do you see the same incidence of bradycardia?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
