************************************************************************** Announcement of Contraceptive Research Funding **************************************************************************

Consortium for Industrial Collaboration in Contraceptive Research (CICCR)

The Contraceptive Research and Development (CONRAD) Program has received funding from the Rockefeller Foundation (and expects to receive additional funding from other Foundations) to initiate a new program for promoting public/private sector partnerships in contraceptive research and development (the Consortium). Funding will be available for research to develop methods related to a woman-centered agenda, with particular emphasis on three priority areas: 1) male methods, 2) vaginal methods that prevents both pregnancy and STD transmission, and 3) monthly regimens, which could be post-coital, anti-implantation or a menses-inducer.

CICCR has been established as a means of encouraging more rapid pursuit of new leads, and determining their ultimate attractiveness for commercial success. Initially, funding will be available through two mechanisms:

1) an open grant program for feasibility studies or innovative projects that fall within the priority areas. Funding will be limited in amount and time; and

2) a matching program (not necessarily 50:50 matching) to investigators at not-for-profit institutions who have projects that are of interest to industry.

The program is intended to be global in nature and enquiries or applications from developed or developing countries, or countries in transition are welcomed. Investigators at not-for-profit institutions who believe that they have projects which fall within the scope of this program or industrial entities who wish to be involved in this program or who are already working with an investigator on a relevant project who feel that additional funding to their non-industrial partner would be helpful for hastening the progress of the project are encouraged to contact:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
