Corticosteroids and hyperemesisFrom: R J Connell (rowan@pavilion.co.uk)Sat Dec 9 13:26:40 1995
At last the protocol from Queen Charlotte's about the above. This is a multicentre RCT (double blind). It will go on for two years. Inclusions: Onset of nausea <12/40 Iweek of IV fluids for first presenters or 24 hours for 2nd+ presenters. Have had one antiemetic ketonuric no uti normal blood glucose Vomitting >2x per day Methods one week of oral prednisolone 20mg BD (12 hourly) if vomitting @ 72hours then IV(eg 100mg hydrocortisone or equivalent) Pilot study showed a 100% reduction of vomitting after one week. I have used this once this week I will agree with Pete Bridgwood it is quite a remarkable change!! Details from Catherine Nelson-Piercy via cfc@rpms.ac.uk or Andy Shennan at ashennan@rpms.ac.uk Hope this is satisfactory. Best of luck-if you try it you WILL be amased!!!! The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
