I am interested in current thoughts on ob sono's done without medical indication or  md order for social "family album" pictures with 3D units, for = out of pocket cash paid by patients.   Admin staffers wish to place advertising brochures at patient check out windows offering this service...my medical concern is re the medical ethics ofseeming to condone the service, and - by the brochure placements - subliminally bringing MD endorsement or solicitation pressures on the patients whosee the brochures. The service is not part of my (hospital based/physicianemployee) practice, but in another facility owned by the hospital. From myread of a recent NC medical board statement re physician practice sales and promotions of services and goods, this is at least on the slippery slope = of what could/should be offered in a medical office. I know I can (and shall) solicit further guidance from the State Board, but listers' comments would be welcome,  and perhaps best done off line.   Thanks   Hank

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
