Re: induction of breech at termFrom: JD Stewart,MD (jdstewartmfmob@hotmail.com)Wed May 20 14:45:05 2009
"I do believe the net >effect will be to convince all patients to have a cesarean section." > Exactly on point- this is the preferred method of (ACOG, et al) steering medical practice agendas without officially appearing to do so and denying this is really happening. SEE Forceps, VBAC, etc... Once a committee opinion exists, it really is de facto the new standard of care and the law of the land , no matter how anti-intellectual, flawed or arrogant. Powerful stuff. Then ..while not offically "outlawing" breeches (or VBAC or forceps) insist there can only be such an event in the setting of (an impossible to produce) hospital protocol, bolstered with a death threat masquerading as a consent, and wrap yourself in the "Patient Safety" flag while placing the reponsibility entirely on the patient..supposedly. I'm surprised they didn't strongly recommend this take place only in tertiary care/ academic research centers with properly vetted IRB's as well so we may study the outcomes for the next 20 years before issuing a recommendation... However, No one ever sues their mother for signing the consent unwisely when a mishap occurs..

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
