Re: TGIF Maternity Leave in ResidencyFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@gmail.com)Sat Feb 28 09:58:20 2009
The year we had all those pregnancies in our residency (January - July 1985) the head of the surgery program was doing his little speech at the end of the year luncheon they had for the residents ... and made the comment: "I guess we didn't work _____ hard enough when she was on our service, since she got pregnant." When NO ONE laughed - he realized what a horrible comment it was. Then he said, "Well - I guess it doesn't really take that much time since my wife had 4 babies in the 5 years of my surgical residency and I was on call every other night." Either way - both comments were WAY out of line. And even when residents were housed in the hospital and not supposed to have wives and so forth - plenty had ways of slipping out of the hospital and so forth. Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
