Therein lies the dimlemna. To decrease the number of primary c-sections it is necessary to be confident and competent in the delivery of breeches, twins, use of forceps and vacuum (our lost art) and have an understanding of fetal monitor interpretation. (ie not sectioning everyone with a suspicious tracing). Allowing more natural birth processes and less medically unnecessary inductions. (Did I mention the need to "kill" all the lawyers and other bottom feeders??)

Its all how you sell it, there are enough big studies out there that it would be unethical to advise a Mom a VBAC is as safe for the babby as a repeat c-section, another factor which is often not explained to mom's is that a c-section from a failed VBAC is more likely to have complications than an elective repeat c-section. That coupled with the fact most Mom's stop at 2-3 children and you get the results you see. In todays enviroment the only way to decearse the amount of repeat c-sections is to decrease the rate of primary c-sections.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
