Re: amniocentesis and fetal malformationsFrom: Robert J. Carpenter, Jr. MD, JD (zygote@icsi.net)Wed Dec 31 18:18:08 2008
The description is of transverse limb reduction defects; hoever, if there was at delivery eevidence of streeter's bands then that would be the cause. If bands were not present then transverse defects or possibly a syndromic condition may be at play. There is no precedent for the amnio to cause transverse limb defects by itself. The incidence is 1-1.5/10,000 live births in the genral population (non-CVS). What pathological data do you have other than the recording as listed. As to the Italian requirement for only growth and presentation, that needs to be changed. Awaiting further medical data. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
