Re: GEN: PlacebosFrom: Richard Chudacoff (rchudacoff@mylinuxisp.com)Sat Oct 25 09:12:41 2008
What abot the CMS requirement that all surgeries must have antibiotics pre-op...even diagnostic scopes and LSHs. -----Original Message----- From: "vnellsch" <vnellsch@eastex.net> To: "Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L" <ob-gyn-l@mail.obgyn.net> Sent: 10/25/08 8:55 AM Subject: Re: GEN: Placebos i think a more interesting number would be how many docs give antibiotics for viral infections, just because the patient expects it, and knowing that when they don't, some other provider will write the prescription, trying to pander to the dissatified patient. i have lost patients over this, with reports getting back to me about some helpful provider down the road. and of course, the patient got better the day after they started the antibiotic. i have a little chart in the office that i use to try and teach patients about what antiobiotics work for, but some just don't care. they want the prescription, not the recommendations for symptomatic treatment. doggone it vnellsch

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
