I think they are all pre-prepping themselves for vaginal deliveries. Although I could be wrong. I do not tell my patients a thing, other than pulse light or laser may be a better option than shaving -- Richard Chudacoff, MD, FACOG _____ From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [mailto:ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of verner nellsch Sent: Saturday, May 31, 2008 5:29 PM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: pubic hair shaving i practice in southeast texas, an area noted for heat and high humidity. over this last week, i kept track of my patients who had exams, and noted that 67% of the women under age 30 had shaved their pubic hair, to include the mons veneris and labia majora. a further 16% had shaved a significant portion of their pubic hair, leaving some on the mons veneris to varying degrees. practically all of these women had some degree of folliculitis in the area of shaving. when i asked them why they shave in such a fashion, the majority answer was differing cosmetic reasons, including fashion. some of their sexual partners do the shaving. i have cautioned the patients with folliculitis, but have remained silent otherwise. are these figures in line with the ob/gyns around the world? is this higher or lower than elsewhere? what do you tell your patients? vnellsch Next message: R.
