Re: OT: Medical know-how raises suicide risk for doctors

I have been treated for depression myself - and have a brother who had a successful suicide and sister with a nearly successful suicide, both while I was in residency and I was aware of this statistic.

And every year I have to check those boxes on the license for continuing to practice in NH and I have often thought of the consequences of answering "yes" to the fact that I was then seeing a psychologist and being treated with meds by a psychiatrist.

We do get into the catch-22 of the problem.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
