It may not impact those docs in big hospitals with rare EMTALA call to handle the drop ins, but here where I take essentially 1:4 EMTALA call it is a BIG issue with how to a)educate patients and b)work to have a less adversarial relationship with the midwives. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
