Re: Group Urges Ban on Medical GiveawaysFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@gmail.com)Wed Apr 30 20:11:29 2008
Well, I am on the other side of this fence: I use mostly drug company pens - why buy them when I will lose them and I can get them free? I write for the drugs I think are best and many of the drugs I get pens on are ones I actually write for generics. The day that drug prices go down because I don't take pens or sticky note pads etc, I will quite taking items. But since the companies aren't going to reduce the cost to the patients - and reimbursements marginally cover overhead I will take what help I can get (even if it is on some lowly item such as pens) The Glossy page ads and TV ads are more effective at biasing the patients to beg for name brand stuff than the Company Detailing to me ... (my opinion and that could be ...) Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
