Re: Fetal AbnormaliesFrom: JD Stewart,MD (jdstewartmfmob@sbcglobal.net)Tue Apr 29 15:37:30 2008
If there is a FISH, one must assume this came from amniocytes or CVS- and a karyotype will follow. Cultured cells should be available to look for specific defects- Answers most of your aneuploidy questions- or at least narrow the focus to a specific genetic defect and one can advise prognosis.(Very, very likely normal...) Just got a nifty brochure from Baylor screening for more than 150 genetic disorders with a Microarray analysis on AF and CVS. Could give you way more information than you would ever need...and label the baby as a carrier of the 2-5 lethal recessive mutations each of us likely carries.. and doom the child to a life without medical insurance. Be careful in being curious and becoming no wiser nor happier nor safe, but nevertheless lifetime labeled. In some mood today. JDS

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
