Re: Complex Surgeries On-LineFrom: Glen Elrod (dr99645@yahoo.com)Tue Apr 22 16:41:58 2008
For one thing, we have one local gynecologist that only does abdominal hysts, never trained to do vaginal surgery and hasn't learned in the last 16 years how to either. I figure for her at least, the DaVinci would be familiar looking anatomy without the abdominal incision. For me, its about the difficult ones that I've had to convert recently to abdominal procedures because of shortcomings with 'straight-stick' laparoscopy. I could be wrong in saying that there should be more options that vaginal or abdominal, but there is now mounting pressure from patients to be able to work robotically. The patient I converted from an LAVH to TAH had a relative getting a 'robotic hysterectomy' and wondered why we couldn't do it that way too. After the case, I wished I could have. I know there are others on the list besides Chris (Richard comes to mind) that do robotics and can speak to the benefits of the procedure. Glen

I have never used the DaVinci, but am going to a lecture and dry lab this weekend in Anchorage. I'm trying to get the other gynecologists interested in at least learning about the technology. Glen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
