Jayacy,

I wouldn't leave the OR if I didn't believe I did a "good D&C." But even after what I thought was a complete curettage, there have been times when I ended up with no trophoblast on pathology, residual trophoblast, missed GTN on pathology and once, a heterotopic pregnancy. My goal is not to prevent resumption of normal cycles as OCP's would do but to reassure me that the pregnancy event is complete so that I can reassure the patient and counsel her accurately. A simple urine pregnancy test has done that for me. I'm not suggesting that anyone else should be following my practice.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
