It's what I've done for 26 years. Equating doing a $1 urine HCG at the time of a post-op visit for D&C with doing a chest x-ray is preposterous. Since it is part of the visit, I don't bill insurance so no red flags for that dollar. Benefits to me: Reassures me that there is no residual trophoblast hanging around (this is not that uncommon and can explain why a patient's cycle isn't immediately returning to normal) GTN wasn't missed on the pathology (has happened) I'm not dealing with a heterotopic pregnancy (has happened) This site is for sharing ideas. I seem to be the only one on here doing a post-op UCG. But this is common practice among physicians that I know. Since no one has a given a good reason for not doing it, I'll continue with my current practice. Charles

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
