As per others: this is poppycock. Does this practice get a kickback for all those unnecessary HCGs? Do they do them in the office and get to charge for all of them? They must not be in a capitated HMO. Even some insurance companies would see the big red flag of paying for many more HCGs than other comparable size practices!

I agree with the others - you do them if you have reason to suspect there is still HCG producing tissue there (many ectopics / gestational trophoblastic disease / reason to think you did not get it all / etc).

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
