Gyn: Breast Cancer Risk ProgramsFrom: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (garrys@mindspring.com)Fri Apr 11 17:05:58 2008
Are any of you using BRCAPRO or other programs to assess cumulative risk? The Gail model is easy. . . The BRCAPRO model, mentioned in the article from 3/07 in CANCER that made MRI appropriate for certain people, is a freebie but not too easy for me to use (maybe I can't find the instructions). It is making a pedigree, and time consuming. It is also possible, if not likely, that I need advanced help and that the program is simple :). So, when I see a patient who is 71 with two daughters with invasive breast cancer, both at age 40, and the patient is an Ashkenazi Jew, she certainly is at significant risk and may warrant MRI or maybe Tamoxifen. How do you assess someone like this? Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
