Steve, you're a little behind the literature on that. There are ample statistics (in the U.S., at least) that areas with strict gun laws have MORE attacks that areas where the citizens are able to carry. That has been well-documented in a number of (relatively smaller) cities and counties.

More than that, it's intuitive that someone who appears less capable of self-defense (in the wild, the old, the young and the lame -- in the cities, the women, the elderly and the oblivious) is a more likely target. So if someone appears likely to be carrying a gun, they'll be passed over for a more attractive target.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
