Re: Celebrate Valentine's DayFrom: Small, Jennifer (JSmall@planned.org)Fri Feb 15 11:32:30 2008
Dan, (In response to Garry and Allen's quips) ...or at least speak openly with her and give her all the good reasons to delay sexual activity (as my now 18 year old recently told me I did for her)! That was one of the sweetest things she has said about my parenting being successful! We spoke openly about the vulnerability of the teen body to disease and pregnancy. We also spoke explicitly about "raging hormones" and the difference in how (most) boys and girls view sex (commitment and "love" vs. "score" and experiment). My girl calls Valentine's Day "Singles Awareness Day"! One of my coworkers told her consolingly that "boys don't mean it anyway!" A bit cynical, but probably true at this age! Educate your girl, Dan, and enjoy watching her grow up with strong values based on factual information! Jennifer Oh, and the Nuva Ring is becoming a favorite with my teens and young women. It does not squash the estrogen which is so important at her age. The Implanon or DMPA do , and could cause more moodiness (a pattern anecdotally seen in my family planning practice with younger women). The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
