Re: BSO without hysterectomyFrom: Henry Gregor (henrygregor@yahoo.com)Sat Feb 2 02:59:40 2008
Allan, seems to me I could agree two cases doesn't make a convincing definitive conclusion...but, given the rarity of the condition of Fallopian CA (How many listers have seen such cases? I have seen one in more years than I really want to 'fess up to, hehe), I'd lay the info out to the patients and call it part of their informed decision making process. Givne the surgical invasiveness and potential for complication those opting for prophylactic surgery are already assuming, if they have no strong feellings re uterine retention, I would honor their requests for a hysterectomy, assuming they have had benefit of risk benefit counseling. The lastest ACOG Practice Bulletin (#89, Jan 2008) still does not recommend doing a hysterectomy at the time of risk reducing BSO:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
