Re: Ob: Chronic HypertensionFrom: Andrew Folley (agfolley@hotmail.com)Fri Dec 28 11:16:55 2007
Newer work from Sibai in 80's and 90's show no benefit to treating PIH unless severe. Treatment does not prevent preeclampisa or eclapsia nor does it prevent IUGR etc. Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2007 17:25:20 -0600From: Stephen.Raymond@dhhs.tas.gov.auTo: ob-gyn-l@dns.obgyn.netSubject: RE: Ob: Chronic Hypertension Dr. Redman was a he. People tend to forget that part of his work in the 70s that showed a lesser degree of pre-eclampsia in those who had Aldomet. Labetalol is not a beta blocker per se, and shows very similar results to the use of Aldomet. Either way no need to have started her on aldomet. Antihypertensives will not prevent preeclampsia or eclapsia nor improve outcome of baby and beta blockers may be detrimental in terms of causing IUGR. And may Dr. Redman and her work be remembered. :-) Hank CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE AND DISCLAIMER The information in this transmission may be confidential and/or protected by legal professional privilege, and is intended only for the person or persons to whom it is addressed. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
