Sharon- welcome. We recently treated a patient admitted to us who was taking 180mg/day of methadone as prescribed by a county methadone maintenance program. We discussed decreasing the dosage prior to her scheduled delivery for neonatal benefit, but she threatened to leave AMA. I understand all patients are different, but do you have general advice for decreasing high-dose methadone prior to delivery to decrease neonatal withdrawl symptoms, or is this even advised? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
