The idea is that we read up on selected material - whether we do it from original article or from a digest I do not think matters as long as we read that info and be able to regurgitate it in cogent manner. That whole process of reading and answering questions is itself a learning experience, which is what they want.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
