Oh, and that brings up my favorite rant--the pain scale is totally inappropriate for L&D since every contraction needs to be beyond a "10" in order for the work of birth to be accomplished. By using the pain scale for labor, women are being automatically set up to use "pain medication and relief" for birth. One of the reasons, I think, for such a high epidural rate. 2 cents. Louana

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
