Re: Gyn: When to stop the pillFrom: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (garrys@mindspring.com)Tue Oct 30 11:37:21 2007
That is pretty much what I did, though I did renew her Rx as to not pull the rug out from under her feet. I like the 1/2 dose of 1/20 for a month--great idea! If she went straight from 1/20 to HRT, I would probably favor a middle of the road dose (i.e. Prempro 0.625) or the equivalent, as opposed to low dose, in order to ease the transition. In an ACOG update tape within the last year or two, which was on perimenopause, the discussants suggested that age 54 was the safe time to stop OCPs in terms of contraception, i.e. very few, if any, conceptions occur at age 54. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
