When I was in Ann Arbor & on the Gyn Onc rotation at the UofM, we
flunked a kid on the obgyn rotation - he really needed psyche help - and
the school was throwing a fit - seems he got in almost only because his
dad was an alum. We stuck to our guns and the med school had to deal
with it then.
At the program I was in at St Joe's in Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti about 2
years later - we flunked a woman who returned to UofM for a year of Ob
training. She was an FP who wanted to do more OB. Boy was she unfit
for it - and we flunked her and the UofM was again aghast that we (the
community program at that!) would dare to flunk someone they had brought
back in for additional training.
I do not know what the UofM did with each candidate. I suspect some
"remedial" training ... after all "there is already so much invested"
the student / resident must be trainable. (Sarcasm intended)
