It is becoming increasingly common to get back cytology reports on new OBs showing ASC-US. Here in California, the emergency Medi-Cal system does not do reflex high-risk DNA tests, and, at $70, none of our patients opt (can afford)to have it done. So, the question is this: if we simply postpone any further evaluation of this matter until post partum, what is the risk that we will be missing an invasive cancer? My guess is that it approaches zero. Even in the case where we do have + DNA, is there any real risk involved in putting this off until post-partum. I have no great zeal for biopsying a pregnant cervix, especially with such a low yield. David Priver, MD

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
