Re: Board Recertification -- Is It A Scam?From: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@gmail.com)Tue Sep 25 21:59:59 2007
I am pretty certain that it was 1986 strongly encouraged to recert and 1987 mandatory (my first ABOG certification was 1987. I actually learned (or re-learned) a thing or two in doing the reading and exams. I understand the copyright laws so they can't send the packet of articles - but the basics of here is the stuff and this is what you have to do could be just sent out and clearly stated. Yes I am smart enough to plow through the stuff - but it isn't necessary to may us do that. I am in a small town - but there are 3 (sometimes 4) other gyns in town - so the hospital librarian (who also serves the neighboring hospital with 3 more gyns) takes the list and makes a set of all the articles - so when the other gyns need them she has them all ready to print out and send over. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
