Re: Board Recertification -- Is It A Scam?From: DoctorJoe@aol.comTue Sep 25 11:55:59 2007

Well, where is the evidence that recertification makes a difference. ABOG has the perfect opportunity now, but that opportunity will be gone in a few years, to test out whether recertificatio makes a difference. They can look at the practices of those who got boarded just before the recertification rules went into effect and those who got boarded just after. They could then see whther there was any significant difference in the practices. Good point. You actually have 3 populations. Lifetime certifications, lifetime certifications who voluntarily recertified, and mandatory recertifications. That changed in when, 1986 or so? So we have some years of folks who could be tallied and quantified and compared. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
