Cost of TestsFrom: Dr. Ainsworth (ainsron@sbcglobal.net)Tue Aug 28 12:45:19 2007
I hadn't checked on the cost of a prenatal panel for awhile and a cash paying patient complained to me about what she had to pay at LabCorp, $1232.50 for the usual: CBC, type, Rh, AB screen, rubella, RPR, HBsAg, UA/C&S, HIV 1&2, HTLV 1&2. When you factor in the additional cost of cystic fibrosis mutation analysis ($~500), AFP screening ($125) and Pap smear ($?) the lab is making considerably more for a pregnancy than you and I do for minimal risk. It would be interesting to know what their markup is on the tests vs. their costs. Ron

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
