I haven't done an x-ray pelvimetry since I left residency in 1979. Did it ever make any difference then? I remember a few patients delivering on the way back from having their x-ray. Most of the time it was simply a way of delaying the inevitable C/S. Clinical pelvimetry is just as useful, always available. If you are going to do an x-ray, a simple flat plate is the most useful, simply looking for the position of the fetal head and legs. To quote Williams: " the prognosis of successful vaginal delivery in any given pregnancy cannot be established on the basis of x-ray pelvimetry alone, because the pelvic capacity is but one of several factors that determine the outcome."

I am so glad to see that someone's still doing XRay pelvimetry! Did a ton in the early-mid 70's for breech deliveries. I don't believe that 1 xray affects the fetus.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
