We end up pulling our hair out a lot because we ship our high risk patients there and they are usually back in our office the next week. We have had trouble 3 different times this year with those high risk moms or babies and struggling to keep them stable until the transport unit can get here. I think you may be right about the DRG. They didn't have anything bad enough to hang their hats on, so they sent her back until something bad happened and they could have a DX to pin on her. The Ped and I end up taking care of these babies a lot. The OB doc usually cuts the cord, hands the baby off to us and then the Ped and I deal with it until we can get them to go away. He did say the one thing he liked about midwives is that they can help with babies and he is not stuck alone with a mess he did not create. I guess all those years in ER and NICU paid off. We do not have a staffed nursery, so it is whoever we can pull, so I usually stay until the patient is gone. Vicki Smith, CNM, MSN West Virginia Midwives- changing the world one baby at a time.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
