Transcervical foley catheter

My Illustrious Colleagues,

Does anybody happen to have a protocol for transcervical foley catheter for cervical ripening at term? If so, you can e-mail it to me off list.

Also, for those of you who have used a transcervical foley, do you feel there is a contraindication to its use with ruptured membranes at term in an unripe cervix. Most of the studies exclude patients with ruptured membranes because just the fact that the membranes were ruptured would be a confounding variable and skew the data, but the studies don't discuss whether or not it would be contraindicated. I would like opinions pro or con.

As an aside, our malpractice carrier here forbids the use of Cytotec for ANY indication - they will not cover an untoward outcome if Cytotec has been used at any point in the care, regardless of the indication...

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
