Is it the standard of care for CNMs to have vacuum extraction privileges? Not allowed at the current time in California. I don't know how many states across the U.S. allow CNMs to use vacuums.

What is the policy at your institution/practice? See above.

What are your thoughts? I think that if a CNM is going to use a vacuum then the MD needs to be in the room for the rare instance that it doesn't work and a C/S must be done. I learned to use a vac while in Alaska and I'm not interested in using it in California.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
