Dunno' if this thought floats anyone's boat, but if you make an incision along the lower fold of the umbilicus, or if you prefer, longitudicnally within the base, its often possible to put a Gelpi retractor into the incision, open it laterally as per normal use, and have it provide excellent elevation/traction for the Veress needle if one is being used, w/o penetrating the skin elsewhere with towel clips or abrading it with allis clamps.
