Re: MethotrexateFrom: Elrod, Darryl G Maj 48 MDOS/SGOBO (Darryl.elrod@LAKENHEATH.AF.MIL)Mon Apr 30 04:48:10 2007
I suppose its that he still has to manage a budget. Mind you, its millions of dollars, but its still a budget. I think, honestly, what he is looking at is that we rarely use methotrexate injections here. I think we see maybe 2-3 ectopics per month and half are taken to surgery. I presume, although I am completely unencumbered by data, that the oral is cheaper and has a longer shelf life making it easier to stockpile for that 1/month use. None of us felt comfortable switching without some protocol that showed equal effects. With the IM shot, there was always the thought that you could see the patient get the medication. There was no worry that it would not be tolerated or not taken. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
