Art,

You are right as was your professor. Anything I hear from a Rep is taken with a grain of rock salt. They know I will say "but where is the evidence" or "show me the evidence" for why your product is truly better or different.

The George Morely comment: "A difference to be a difference must make a difference" - many times a rep will say something - I will come back with a challenge.

The only thing I will commit to with a rep - is that I like haveing as many options as possible for my patients because they are not all alike.

While I see and talk with a number of product reps - they often comment that they learn from me and find that I have already heard about whatever it is they were going to "detail" me on.

I want the samples so that I can give them to lower income folks etc.

Drug prices are not going to decline nor will and drug company CEO or stockholder make less money (or more) because I take samples or use the free pens and post it notes etc. As long as my overhead is increasing and my revenue is relatively fixed - I will take the free stuff I can get.

I will have the reps find monographs for some items. I will listen to what they say - and I will make up my own mind.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
