I not only agree to place Mirenas in nulligravid women, I recommend them. There is actually a decreased risk of PID with them, hypothesized to be because the progesterone thickens the cervical mucus and may prevent ascending infection. I place a paracervical block for the placement, and rarely have a patient complain of discomfort at all. Consdering that it is the most effective contraception available, I think its crazy not to make it available to nulligravid women. Just my personal opinion...

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
