I do not believe you get paid for doing the Pap at the PP visit. That visit is included in global billing in our state Medicaid and insurances also require we do it for no reimbursement. As previously stated, PAP smears at 6 weeks PP are frequently read as"ASCUS, healing and repair, cannot R/O dysplasia". It is healing and repair, and with an abnormal Pap you still have to do a repeat (at 4 months) and if they have no Medicaid, you still don't get paid. If you don't want to know the answer, don't ask the question. They had a Pap and ?colpo during preg. Your partner is correct.

Subject: HPV positive pap- PP

But the discussion in our group lately is-

We have always done PP pap at 6 weeks because the Medical card is canceled after that time.

One of the OBs wants to wait and do the Postpartum pap at 4 months because many of the 6 week ones come back with reactive cellular changes or inflammation present.

If we wait until 4 months PP we do not get paid for them or the office visit.

We have quite a few HPV positive paps and will do colpo during mid-pregnancy, but how accurate is the 6 week pap?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
